Preserving Heritage

When a recipe is lost

There is a quiet grief when a beloved family dish fades from memory. The exact spice blend of Grandma's Sunday roast, or the secret to her plum tart, lost because it was never written down.

I created this cookbook to rescue those precious culinary memories. By gathering and translating these classic German recipes, we bring back the warm flavors that make coming home feel like coming home.

Honoring Grandma's Legacy

Written in English & German. - A collection of cherished recipes and life stories, gathered from family moments around Grandma’s table.

Sweet & savory - Sunday cakes, homemade broth, German Spaetzle - all the dishes that made coming home feel like coming home. We spent three years recreating every one of them from memory, handwritten notes, taste, and love.

All recipes are written side-by-side, in English and German, so you can easily compare (and learn) the other language.

Typical German ingredients like Quark or Schmand were replaced with the best option to achieve the same result in an American kitchen.

Everything was made from scratch. Traditional German home cooking was her daily life, for 97 years, mostly without writing many recipes down.

Hi, I am Tanja

I grew up eating Oma's food and never thought to ask for the recipes - until it was almost too late. This cookbook is three years of memory, taste, and love. I'd love for you to be part of its story.

Before the book, meet the woman behind it. Enjoy stories + discover if you could solve her hobby too.
